The certificate of admissibility certifies that a company name or designation may be used. It may be requested online, in person or by post and is valid for 3 months.

Who can request

One of the participants of the legal person to be incorporated

Future partner, founder or associate

The person itself

In case of a Sole Trader Entity with Limited Liability (EIRL), entrepreneur or sole trader

The entity itself

For the purpose of changing the name, registered head office or object of an already existing entity.

How to request

Access the online service
Select means of authentication: Citizen card, Digital Mobile key, Digital certificate of legal professionals, European Authentication (eIDAS)
Complete the form and attach the necessary documents
enter the company name you want (before choosing a name, please consult the general rules for composing company names or designations and take the susceptibility test)
Make payment (ATM reference or credit card).

Payment must be completed within 5 consecutive days.

In person, at Registo Nacional de Pessoas Coletivas (RNPC)
by post: fill in the form and send it to RNPC

Even if the request is carried out in person, the certificate will still be issued electronically.

When to request

It is mandatory to submit the certificate of admissibility of company name or designation to:

incorporate a commercial company
change the company name and/or
move the registered head office to another municipality (except when it is a commercial company and its designation is composed by a fantasy expression– ex: name from the list or another meaningless expression– link to service order) and/or
change the scope of activities exercised (corporate object).

What happens next

After completing the request:

We will review the request.

If the name is approved, we provide the name availability certificate
As soon as the Registo Nacional de Pessoas Coletivas approves the name, the certificate becomes available.

You will get a code to consult the certificate online
The code is valid for 3 months for the purpose of the incorporation of the company in question or its alteration and respective registry.
